During the Little Mermaid Jr we were delighted to receive new sound equipment which was not only used during the production but also was used to train some young people in audio production.
The equipment enabled our young performers to be heard throughout the performance, gave our young people the opportunity to learn alongside professional audio and sound technicians including in how to manage and handle sound equipment and how to work alongside performers.
This opportunity was made possible with thanks to Southern Ports Community Investment Program.
Costume Design Workshop
September 2025
Many members young and old joined us for a Costume Sewing Busy Bee as we prepared dazzling costumes for our upcoming theatre production of The Little Mermaid Jr!
We were delighted to have members supporting one another to design, sew, glue, and create costumes for our young performers to wear on stage. Skills were also taught on the day including ruffling, sewing pleats, drafting patterns, and some of our younger members were taught the basics of machine sewing.
This workshop was held at the Albany Business Centre and was made possible with thanks to Bendigo Bank – Albany Community Bank.
Think Tank Workshop

Children and young people were given the chance to shape the look and feel of the show through costumes, props, sets, hair, makeup and even the show poster!
Working alongside guest artist and costume designer Nicole Jenkins, and our parent volunteers, participants created costume designs, trialed make-up designs on each other, and learned about the elements required for poster creation.
They also were able to touch and feel different materials and trial how cloth would move and could be manipulated to create different costumed characters.
Held at the Spectrum Theatre this was a fabulous way to start the process of bringing The Little Mermaid to life.

Costume design workshop
With thanks to the State Government through the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries, and the City of Albany we held a one day workshop in costume design.
Participants were guided through the process of receiving a costume brief, selecting materials, design principals, and then presenting their designs to others for feedback.
This workshop was lead by professional artist Ashley Whiting.

With thanks to Fossiker’s Tip Shop and the City of Albany we help a one week workshop at the Fossiker’s Tip Shop where participants took part in a range of activities to produce the props and sets needed for Moana Jr. All materials for this workshop were sourced from the tip.
The final products created from the workshop included the Lalotai monsters, ocean backdrop, three green islands, the ancestors headpieces, ancient sail boat sails, heart of Tefiti, paper mache coconuts, and Maui’s hook.
This workshop was lead by professional teaching artists and included mentoring for our young technical crew.
Audition Preparation Workshop

Audition Preparation Workshop
With thanks to the State Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, and the City of Albany we held three two hour workshops designed to prepare auditionees for the upcoming Moana Jr auditions.
Participants were taken through a vocal and physical warm up, learned a short dance combination, learned the audition song “How Far I’ll Go”, and learned some basic techniques for presenting the best audition possible.
This workshop was lead by professional teaching artists and included mentoring for one young artist.
