Albany Children’s Theatre:
Where Imagination Sprouts and Dreams Take Center Stage!
HISTORY
Albany Children’s Theatre (ACT) was founded in 2022 by a group of parents and community members passionate about creating authentic arts opportunities for children and young people.
With an emphasis on the performing arts, ACT aims to create productions which engage children and young people as performers, arts workers, and arts audiences. We aim to develop their skills in all areas of the performing arts while helping to develop strong community connections and friendships, and create an environment which is supportive and fun.
In our inaugural year ACT presented one main stage production, Disney’s Moana Jr. Over 12 weeks 88 performers between the ages of 5-18 auditioned, rehearsed, and performed in the junior musical. Along the way they developed skills in stagecraft, singing, dancing, acting, technical design, technical operating, and teamwork.
In addition, ACT also offered a variety of arts workshops which supported the creation of Moana Jr for the stage. Workshops were held in a variety of disciplines including:
- audition preparation
- set design and set building
- prop design and construction
- costume design
- make-up application
It is our intention to continue to offer an annual program of performance opportunities and workshops which build skills in our children and young people.
We also aim to employ regionally based professional artists and arts workers within our programs given our young people the opportunity to explore the arts more deeply and see first hand what a career in the arts can be.
